Targeted Therapeutics
Deciphering the molecular underpinnings of a disease is often only the first step toward developing an effective treatment. The path from target identification to a successful therapeutic can be filled with numerous hurdles that call for creative strategies. This Select highlights recent advances in using gene therapy and engineered cells to treat cancers and chronic heart disease. Their succes...
متن کاملAntibody-Drug Conjugates as Novel and Potent Cancer Therapeutics
Conventional chemotherapeutic drugs to treat cancer suffers from the lack of selectivity towards the tumor site and thus causing damage to even healthy tissues. Drug dose escalation to therapeutically active levels is often impossible with chemotherapeutic drugs due to this toxicity. The selectivity of the treatment was improved with the introduction of monoclonal antibody drugs that are direct...

Successful Expression of Adenovirus E3 CR1 Genes from constructs carrying Adenovirus Tripartite Leader sequences: a technical breakthrough Camden Bair, Poornima Kotha, and Adriana Kajon Over 70 human adenovirus genotypes have been described to date and classified into seven species (HAdV-A to -G). One of the few characteristics distinguishing HAdV genomes of different species is the unique repe...
متن کاملDesign, synthesis and evaluation of seleno-dihydropyrimidinones as potential multi-targeted therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease.
In this paper we report the design, synthesis and evaluation of a series of seleno-dihydropyrimidinones as potential multi-targeted therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease. The compounds show excellent results as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, being as active as the standard drug. All these compounds also show very good antioxidant activity through different mechanisms of action.
متن کاملPredicting Targeted Cancer Therapeutics
Motivation: Cancer is a complex and evolving disease, making it difficult to discover effective treatments. Traditional drug discovery relies on high-throughput screening on reductionist models in order to enable the testing of 105 or 106 compounds. These assays lack the complexity of the human disease. Functional assays overcome this limitation by testing drugs on human tumors, however they ca...
